Advancing credit union advocacy through consistent engagement
Face-to-face engagement is critical to credit union advocacy, and America’s Credit Unions, leagues, and credit unions are all doing their part to secure the credit union tax status and other advocacy priorities in recent meetings with members of Congress.
America’s Credit Unions leaders met with Sen. Andy Kim, D-N.J. at an event in New Jersey last week, bringing up key issues of concern.
In Washington, D.C., Luminate – Louisiana’s Credit Unions President/CEO Juan Fernandez Ceballos and Director of Legislative Advocacy Anthony Ware met with several members of Congress last week to touch on a variety of bills. In meetings with House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R, and Rep. Cleo Fields, D, and staff from the office of Sen. Bill Cassidy, R, they shared credit union support for stablecoin legislation, as well as the Taskforce for Recognizing and Averting Payment Scams (TRAPS) Act (S. 2019), Veterans Member Business Loan Act (S. 110/H.R. 507), and more.
The Cooperative Credit Union Association also met with members of Congress serving constituents in their states. This includes Rep. Chris Pappas, D-N.H., and Rep. Bill Keating, D-Mass., who both “understand the credit union difference and the impact we have on members, businesses, and communities,” said CCUA President/CEO Ron McLean.
