Credit union recess advocacy continues with Rep. Cleaver meeting

Missouri credit union leaders met with Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., in his 5th Congressional District office this week. Credit unions and Leagues around the country are scheduling in-district meetings during the August recess.

Cleaver—ranking member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance—met with CommunityAmerica Credit Union, Holy Rosary Credit Union, and United Consumers Credit Union in a meeting arranged and led by the Missouri Credit Union Association – a division of the Cornerstone League.

“This in-district meeting gave Cornerstone League members the opportunity to show that we care and advocate for policies that ensure credit unions can continue to serve as a trusted resource, fostering economic stability and growth for all members,” said Ray Bozarth, executive director of the Missouri Credit Union Association. “Congressman Cleaver remains committed in his belief that credit unions foster financial inclusion and provide vital services for community empowerment.”

America’s Credit Unions engaged with Cleaver in June on how expanding Community Reinvestment Act requirements to credit unions would create costly burdens with no benefit to consumers.

Messaging resources are available from America’s Credit Unions to help address top issues in credit union advocacy efforts during the recess.

America’s Credit Unions encourages credit unions to reach out to their state Leagues and the America’s Credit Unions Advocacy Team for assistance in arranging meetings with lawmakers and access to advocacy resources, talking points, one-pagers, and more.
