In-district meetings bring credit union staff and lawmakers together

With two weeks left in the August recess, a Texas credit union is the latest to host an in-district Congressional meeting – and made sure as many people as possible at their credit union had the chance to take part.

GECU welcomed Congresswoman Veronica Escobar, D, to their El Paso operations center last week in a big way.  Rep. Escobar met with the leadership team and heard about their community and lending initiatives. She also shared a legislative update and  toured the facility, meeting with team members one-on-one and seeing firsthand how the credit union operates.

State leagues and credit unions across the country are using the opportunity to meet with members of Congress while they are back home for the August recess, sharing resources and information about legislation that impact credit unions and the members they serve.

Congress is back on Capitol Hill for session September 9. Lawmakers are expected to return to their districts in October in preparation for the November elections.

America’s Credit Unions offers resources and material to assist with legislative meetings, available in Messaging Resources.
