Leagues, credit unions host policymakers, candidates as recess winds down

Leagues and credit unions are staying busy meeting with policymakers, even as the summer recess winds down.  Last week brought credit union leaders together with elected officials and candidates in South Carolina, North Dakota, Delaware and New Jersey.

The Carolinas Credit Union League (CCUL) met with Rep. William Timmons, R-S.C. in a joint meeting that also included a candidate for South Carolina State Senate, Jason Elliott.

America’s Credit Unions and the CCUL supported Timmons with a targeted advertisement campaign and he won a tough primary in June.

Dakota Credit Union Association President/CEO Jeff Olson and Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs John Alexander met with Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., staff members to discuss key legislation impacting credit unions.

Credit union and League leaders also met with Julie Fedorchak, the Republican nominee for the North Dakota U.S. House seat.

Also last week, Cooperative Credit Union Association and America’s Credit Unions hosted Democratic candidate Sarah McBride— who is running for the at-large Congressional seat in Delaware — at Priority Plus Credit Union.

The CrossState Credit Union Association hosted Rep. Andy Kim, D-N.J. at its Hamilton, N.J. office. Kim is running for the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by the resignation of Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J.

Earlier this summer the Iowa Credit Union League hosted Rep. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa, at its West Des Moines office. Nunn introduced his Community Development Financial Institutions Fund oversight bill earlier this year at a West Des Moines branch of Veridian Credit Union.

Rep. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, at Greater Iowa Credit Unions. Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, also hosted a town hall on various topics at Members 1st Credit Union.
