ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE

Grassroots Action Center

We’ve made it easy to reach out to your federal lawmakers and keep them aware of key issues and legislation affecting credit unions. With pre-composed emails that highlight our stance on a variety of issues, we ask for their support or opposition. It’s an easy way to make your voice heard.

Who should participate? Some issues require large-scale engagement while others are more targeted. We use the terms Grassroots and Grasstops to distinguish the two.

Grassroots is an advocacy strategy to motivate as many members/consumers as possible  to directly contact their lawmakers, ensuring the message is “heard loud and clear on Capitol Hill.”

Grasstops advocacy is a targeted approach that focuses on specific groups, like CEOs and Board Members, to contact their lawmakers or specific committees.

Current grasstops actions:

Keep the payment system secure

Credit union members ability to safely use credit cards is at risk. The Durbin-Marshall Credit Card Mandate would require your credit cards can run on alternative networks and there is no guarantee the convenience, zero-liability fraud protection, and other programs you know will remain. Take action now to protect this system as is and keep our cards secure!

Expand homeownership opportunities

H.R. 7647 adds new eligibility for Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) membership by including credit unions in the Community Financial Institutions (CFI) definition. This change could allow over 1,800 credit unions to join their regional FHLBank, providing them with reliable, low-cost liquidity and access to financial services. Encourage your Representatives to cosponsor this bipartisan legislation.
