New on the podcast: protecting the credit union tax status

The latest episode of A CU Seat at the Table, America's Credit Unions' new podcast, looks at what is happening in Washington with the credit union tax status.

Join host Anthony Demangone, Chief Membership & Engagement Officer, at the table with Carrie Hunt, Chief Advocacy Officer, and Alane Dent, Vice President of Corporate and Legislative Affairs at TruStage.

Don't tax my credit union

While credit unions are always fighting to preserve their federal income tax status to help the best serve their members, this episode explains why the fight is harder this year. The slim margins in Congress and the wider tax discussion set this apart from previous years.

Alane puts things into perspective, providing some historical context of past fights and explaining why the aggressive nature on the front end of this is so crucial. She points out that in "every congressional district, we have a voice. We can do this if we continue to work together and shout it out from the mountain tops."

"We need every single member of Congress to understand that and be aware of the fact that credit unions, who are their constituents, and credit union members, who are their voters believe that the credit union business model needs to continue."

Hunt emphasizes the need for a unified voice from credit unions across the country, of all sizes. Attacks are coming from the opposition to all types of credit unions, making it essential we stand together and ensure people understand the credit union difference.
