Conway weighs in on rhetoric against the credit union tax status
Pushing back on bankers’ efforts to create a “growing misconception” that credit unions operate just like banks and should be taxed the same way, American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) Board Chair and CrossState Credit Union Association President/CEO Patrick Conway wrote an op-ed for CUInsight.
Conway pointed out how the credit union tax status benefits everyone. He tackled the bank lobby’s rhetoric against the credit union tax status as a “misguided belief” that “ignores the fundamental differences between credit unions and banks—both in structure and purpose—and disregards the immense economic value credit unions generate for their members and communities.”
