Nussle: Credit unions continue to advocate in support of tax status
The more than 6,000 credit union leaders in Washington, D.C., for the Governmental Affairs Conference are the latest phase of relentless, ongoing credit union advocacy in support of the credit union tax status.
Credit unions were on hand throughout the first weeks of a new Congress, new administration, and as new and acting committee chairs and agency directors took their roles. America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle highlighted those efforts in the above video.
“Credit unions are a constant presence in Washington and on Capitol Hill. Working together with our league partners and credit union across the country, our advocacy is focused, it’s fierce and it’s full of stories, real stories, from real people who choose, trust, and depend on credit unions,” he said. “With tax reform pending and protecting the credit union tax status as the top priority, these constant meetings with policymakers are laying important groundwork in the credit union tax fight.”
That relentless credit union advocacy included:
- Welcoming the 119th Congress;
- Attending inauguration and engaging with the new administration;
- Testifying before the House Small Business Committee; and
- Scheduling weekly fly-ins from leagues and credit unions to connect with key tax writing officials (including chairs of the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees), as well as connecting in home districts.
Ways to engage and take action are available both on the Don't Tax My Credit Union website and resources for credit unions and leagues.
