This week: Congress in home districts, NCUA meeting agenda, tax reform discussions continue

Congress is out of session this week, returning to their home districts following the passage of legislation funding the government through Sept. 30.

The next NCUA board meeting will be held March 27. Stay tuned for coverage of the meeting agenda releasing this Thursday.

The House Ways and Means Committee tax bill discussions are imminent. The banking industry has begun calling for a removal of the credit union tax status for credit unions with $1 billion or more in assets.

Americas Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle said this shift shows that banks are only trying to remove competition from credit unions, and that he time is now for all credit unions to engage in protecting the tax status, keep the pressure on lawmakers, and tell them “Don’t Tax My Credit Union!”

Visit the Don’t Tax My Credit Union website for resources to take action and information to help tell the credit union difference. America’s Credit Unions offers several additional resources you can use to advocate for your credit union: the MAP program and Project Zip Code:

  • Get members and staff engaged in credit union advocacy with the Member Activation Program (MAP). MAP provides plug-and-play content credit unions can use to engage their members to activate them as advocates fo the credit union movement. Members are the greatest advocacy resource for the industry. Activate them with MAP.
  • Project Zip Code allows for the collection of accurate, congressional district level data that demonstrates the credit union impact for your respective lawmakers. Data is an invaluable advocacy tool, sign up for Project Zip Code to get access to powerful statistics that prove the credit union difference.
