Nussle Announces Intention to Retire as CEO of America’s Credit Unions
Today, Jim Nussle announced his intention to retire as the CEO of America’s Credit Unions, one of the largest and most prestigious national trade associations in the country.
Nussle has served the credit union movement since September of 2014. Nussle did not specify an exact date for his retirement but rather expressed his desire to provide the Board the full flexibility to conduct a search for a CEO over the next several months on a timeline of their choosing, and to ensure his ongoing efforts to champion the organization’s important advocacy agenda.
“Serving credit unions is a deep personal privilege. After a long career in advocacy from both sides of the policy making table, leading CUNA and the honor of helping to create and lead America’s Credit Unions, it is soon time for me to pursue new interests in retirement. My announcement today is intended to provide the Board the time to conduct a thorough national search to find the next leader for the Association,” Nussle said.
Nussle went on to say, “My full and ongoing focus will be on our intensive credit union advocacy efforts to protect our credit union model. Credit Unions are the financial first responders in every community around the country, providing important access to financial services to enhance the financial well-being of our consumer members and advancing communities across the country including many that banks have abandoned.”
2025 marks a 40-year career milestone for Jim Nussle in advocacy, public service, business and law.
Pat Pierce, President/CEO of City and County Credit Union and Chair of the America’s Credit Unions Board of Directors said, “The America’s Credit Unions Board of Directors appreciates Jim’s leadership, the flexible succession timeline, and the ability to conduct a thorough national search. I believe strong candidates will emerge for consideration for this vital leadership role.”
The Board has selected Vice Chair Karen Harbin, President/CEO of Commonwealth Credit Union, to lead a search committee and selection process and has selected Korn Ferry to assist the committee in conducting the National search.
