Credit union supporters win in primaries this week

With primaries in Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Washington on Tuesday, credit union-backed candidates won.

Several key updates to note include:

  • In Michigan, Senate candidate Rep. Elissa Slotkin won her primary against actor Hill Harper with 76% of the vote, securing the Democratic nomination to face Republican Mike Rogers in November; and
  • In Kansas, former Attorney General Derek Schmidt, R, won the 2nd Congressional District primary to advance to the general election with 53% of the vote. Incumbent Jake LaTurner, R, chose not to run for re-election.
  • In Missouri, America’s Credit Unions-backed candidates saw a 100% success rate.
  • In Washington, America’s Credit Unions supported Rep. Dan Newhouse, R, in the 4th Congressional District primary election. Newhouse finished second but advanced to the general election against fellow Republican Jerrod Sessler.

Credit union-backed candidates have a success rate over 98% so far in the 2024 cycle. Election results are available on America’s Credit Unions’ Credit Union Elections Hub and updated throughout the primaries and general election.
