This week: Caucus kicks off in D.C., Congress returns with tax hearing

Congress returns to Washington, D.C., this week, as will hundreds of credit union advocates attending America’s Credit Unions’ Congressional Caucus through Wednesday.

Follow along with Caucus on social media with the #Caucus2024 hashtag, the Your Capitol Connection newsletter, and each morning’s America’s Credit Unions newsletter.

With federal government scheduled to expire Sept. 30, House Republicans announced an agreement Friday on legislation to fund the federal government through March 28. Politico reports the bill contains a requirement for proof of citizenship to vote, which Senate Democrats and the White House have said they will not support.

On Thursday, the Senate Finance Committee will conduct a hearing, “The 2025 Tax Policy Debate and Tax Avoidance Strategies,” starting at 10 a.m. Eastern.

America’s Credit Unions will submit comments for the record highlighting the numerous benefits of the credit union tax status and engage with committee members before and after the hearing.
