Funding for the federal government is scheduled to expire Sept. 30. House Republicans had announced a continuing resolution but pulled it from the House floor without a vote last week. House leadership hopes to have the chamber consider the measure this week.

The Senate Banking Committee holds a hearing Wednesday on the macroeconomic impacts of potential tax reform in 2025.  This follows last week’s Senate Finance Committee hearing on tax avoidance and preparing for the 2025 tax debate. The credit union tax status was not mentioned at that hearing, except in a study linked from a footnote of written witness testimony.

Other items this week:

  • Wednesday, the House Small Business Committee hearing, “Holding the SBA Accountable,” features testimony from  Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman.
  • Thursday, the Senate Committee on Aging will conduct a hearing, “Fighting Fraud: How Scammers are Stealing from Older Adults;” and
  • Thursday, the NCUA will conduct its monthly board meeting Sept. 19, where they will vote on two final rules supported by America’s Credit Unions. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. Eastern and can be viewed on NCUA.gov.

Outside of Washington, America’s Credit Unions’ CEO Council Conference convenes in Scottsdale, Ariz., Wednesday through Friday.
