Urging FCC to issue clear credit union-member communications

As scam calls and text messages impact consumers and financial institutions at a growing level,  America’s Credit Unions continued efforts in urging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to address the issue. As part of a group meeting Tuesday with Commissioners Geoffrey Starks and Anna Gomez, America’s Credit Unions and other financial organizations emphasized the impact of fraud on credit unions and other financial institutions, and the need for action.

The financial services organizations pointed to the fraud losses for consumers and institutions caused by these scams.

The FCC previously issued a draft report and order on blocking illegal and fraudulent and illegal texts and calls, but it was later withdrawn. The draft Report and Order was scheduled for consideration at the FCC’s October meeting but was pulled from the agenda.

This week’s meeting  follows another financial institutions group meeting with FCC staff last month. America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle, Chief Advocacy Officer Carrie Hunt, and members of the advocacy team also met with FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel and Starks in separate meetings earlier this year in an effort to ensure credit unions can continue to contact members on time-sensitive matters.
