Executive Orders include regulatory freeze

President Donald Trump issued a series of Executive Orders following inauguration Monday, including a regulatory freeze for all executive departments and agencies.

The regulatory freeze order prohibits agencies from proposing or issuing a rule “in any manner, including by sending a rule to the Office of the Federal Register until a department or agency head appointed or designated by the President after noon on January 20, 2025, reviews and approves the rule.”

It also may postpone effective dates of final rules, asking agencies to “consider postponing for 60 days from the date of this memorandum the effective date for any rules that have been published in the Federal Register, or any rules that have been issued in any manner but have not taken effect, for the purpose of reviewing any questions of fact, law, and policy that the rules may raise. ”

Another order directs the attorney general to “take appropriate action to review the activities of all departments and agencies exercising civil or criminal enforcement authority of the United States, including, but not limited to, the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Federal Trade Commission,” over the last four years to “correct past misconduct by the federal government related to the weaponization of law enforcement and the weaponization of the intelligence community.”

America’s Credit Unions will review additional orders that may affect the financial services system as they are issues.
