Nussle to White House: Credit unions are ‘heart and soul’ of economy

America’s Credit Unions is employing a whole-of-government approach to advancing credit union priorities,  reaching out to President Donald Trump Tuesday on ways credit unions can grow the U.S. economy. The letter follows up on outreach sent to newly appointed administration officials highlighting credit union priorities in their areas of authority.

“Regulatory burdens make it difficult for credit unions to continue their mission of providing safe, affordable financial services to working Americans, as we have seen through rapid consolidation that makes it difficult for credit unions to survive,” America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle wrote. “We want to work with your administration to find an appropriate balance between safety and soundness and regulation so that credit unions cannot just survive, but thrive, and in doing so empower and uplift more people.”

Nussle also wrote to the new administration shortly after November’s election, urging support of efforts to protect, empower, and advance credit unions.

America’s Credit Unions is working to engage officials, lawmakers, and regulators on key credit union priorities.
