Record-breaking Governmental Affairs Conference kicks off
A record-breaking Governmental Affairs Conference featuring more than 6,000 credit union leaders in the nation’s capital kicked off Sunday night with a welcome by America’s Credit Unions President/CEO Jim Nussle, and more.
“Welcome to the 50th GAC, this is undoubtedly one of the biggest events in financial services, let alone the biggest event in credit unions, and it’s so important for our movement,” Jim said. “This year is perhaps one of the most important times to have a unified voice, to be loud, and to be crystal clear on how we move the credit union movement forward.”
Restauranteur Will Guidara was the week’s first keynote speaker, sharing how he’s built his career on “unreasonable hospitality,” and how credit unions can take that mindset to member interactions.
Monday morning begins with the parade of flags, Nussle’s mainstage address, remarks from Chief Advocacy Carrie Hunt and NCUA Chairman Kyle Hauptman, plus breakout sessions covering the latest topics of interest to credit unions.
Monday also includes a keynote address from trailblazing financial services leader Carla Harris.
Members of Congress, regulators, administration officials, and more will speak on the main stage throughout the next three days.
A notable highlight takes place Wednesday, with Senate Banking Committee Chair Tim Scott, R-S.C., sitting down for a fireside chat with Carolinas Credit Union League Senior Vice President of Advocacy Billy Boylston.
Scott—a former credit union board member—is a strong credit union supporter, and introduced a resolution to nullify the CFPB’s overdraft rule earlier this month.
