Hanke equips credit union leaders with communication, storytelling insights ahead of Hill hikes
Stacey Hanke, communication expert and Hall of Fame speaker, prepped credit union advocates for hiking Capitol Hill by outlining her steps for communicating effective stories in meetings with policymakers during her interactive keynote speech at the Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) Wednesday.
“Wouldn’t it be powerful if you could influence in every interaction—Monday to Monday?” questioned Hanke. She outlined her formula for entering every conversation with confidence, connection, and influence, noting the goal is for “regulators and lawmakers to take action long after the conversation occurs.”
Along with the knowledge of how to craft an impactful story, attendees learned about the importance of brevity and self-awareness—two factors that are of the utmost importance when telling a story. “Observe yourself through the eyes and ears of your listeners,” she said.
During her speech, she drove home the idea that “common sense is not common practice” and empowered credit union leaders to enhance their influence, foster stronger relationships through connection, and drive meaningful action within their organizations and communities.
