‘Don’t Tax My Credit Union’ postcards outreach grows

Leagues, credit unions, employees, boards, and members have sent more than 500,000 messages to members of Congress with the message “Don’t Tax My Credit Union,” and stakeholders continue to engage the campaign in more personal ways.

America’s Credit Unions has printable postcards available as part of its Member Activation Program, which contain spaces for members to fill out their information and a QR code directing to the Don’t Tax My Credit Union website

Signet Federal Credit Union, based in Paducah, Ky., released a video on social media encouraging members to stop by a branch to fill out a card, or visit the Don’t Tax My Credit Union website to send messages to elected officials.

“We’ll make sure these cards go straight to Congress,” said Katelynn Rowe, Signet’s director of marketing. “We’ve been supporting our community for 86 years, and now we’re asking you for support.”

Ascentra Credit Union is another credit union that's using postcards in its legislative outreach. The Bettendorf, Iowa-based credit union created postcards with the template and urged members to sign. It is delivering them to Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa (chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee), and Rep. Mariannette Miller Meeks, R-Iowa, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Eastman Credit Union and United Southeast Credit Union delivered thousands of cards to Rep. Morgan Griffith, R-Va., at a local chamber of commerce meeting earlier this month.

Another outreach option is to record video testimonials, which allows members to share how credit unions made a difference in their lives. America’s Credit Unions’ new Social Media Toolkit on the Don’t Tax My Credit Union website offers ready-to-use social media posts, best practices, and instructions for recording those video testimonials, which can be recorded and submitted straight from the webpage for use in the Don’t Tax My Credit Union campaign.

Action items to engage with the campaign are also available on the America’s Credit Unions website.
