In-district meetings with key lawmakers as Congress prepares return to D.C.

Credit unions recently engaged with key members of Congress who will be involved in upcoming tax legislation. With Congress passing its budget resolution prior to the spring recess, work will begin on drafting the tax legislation upon lawmakers’ return Monday. 

Texas credit union leaders from American Airlines Federal Credit Union and the Cornerstone League met with Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, in Irving, Texas. Van Duyne is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Cornerstone also met with Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, at his district office in Flower Mound, Texas, over the recess, to discuss the importance of maintaining the tax status, the future of the CFPB, and the importance of maintaining the current interchange system. 

In Wichita, Kan., Catholic Family Federal Credit Union hosted Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., also a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Estes is a former board member at Mid-American Credit Union, which was present at the meeting, along with Quantum Credit Union, Credit Union of America, Meritrust Credit Union, Heartland Credit Union, and Communication Federal Credit Union.

The new Don’t Tax My Credit Union Social Media Toolkit contains information for members to record and share their story in a video, along with social media copy and graphics. Other resources for the campaign include a press kit with information on writing op-eds and letters to the editor for local publications, ways to contact lawmakers, and more.
